What is 18-MEA?
18-MEA’s role is to give defense against external attacks on the
hair’s condition and appearance. 18-MEA is the major natural lipid
(fatty layer) that protects the cuticle surface, creates shine and
accounts for 40% of the lipid mass.
Regular chemical treatments, styling and environmental damage all
wear away the hair’s natural 18-MEA meaning that over time hair becomes
dull and brittle, less manageable, harder to comb and more susceptible
to further damage.
Longer hair (i.e. any hair from jaw length of longer) is older and
thus has been exposed to more damage than shorter hair and will have
less natural 18-MEA.
